Human Civilization is Subconsciously Suicidal
We live in a dying world. People don't like to think about it but we are. If people seriously thought about it, most of them wouldn't be able to go about their lives. Most would collapse in a heap out of devastation. Fortunately some react by trying to save us from utter destruction, and I certainly hope they can but I find it hard to believe. It seems more and more certain that humans are destined to destroy themselves. Maybe there's some comfort in that though. Rather than eventually being destroyed by something completely out of our control (asteroid, rogue black hole, exploding sun, unstoppable disease, etc.) we instead have the ability to end it ourselves, and have ever since the onset of nuclear weapons. And at least that would be a relatively quick way to go. But as our species does, we've of course made the situation worse. Rather than simply blowing ourselves out of the sky, we are now on the path to starvation and / or destroying our ozone layer and / or creating technology that realizes it doesn't need us. Delightful.

Heroic Couplets
Never again will I rehearse my death,
spread out on floors and drawing ragged breath.
Without a god we pray among the dead,
alive despite our lamentations said.
Alight on feet that carry little weight,
The carcass left behind in wooden crate.
My tomb will hold a haunting spirit slime,
decaying self the mark of what is mine.
spread out on floors and drawing ragged breath.
Without a god we pray among the dead,
alive despite our lamentations said.
Alight on feet that carry little weight,
The carcass left behind in wooden crate.
My tomb will hold a haunting spirit slime,
decaying self the mark of what is mine.
